I am in the process of replacing the front springs on my 61. This has turned out to be one of the most difficult and aggrevating jobs I have ever gotten into, largely due to some frozen bolts. Anyway, two questions. I am also replacing the upper outer control arm bushing, which adjusts camber and caster. Is there a way to make a rough adjustment prior to taking the car to a front end shop to get it aligned? I'll have to drive it 5-10 miles to a shop, depending on where I take it. Also I need to remove the lower inner control arm shaft in order to get the remnants of a frame bolt out. I can either take the shaft off directly, or remove the lower outer shaft and remove the whole lower control arm. The service manual makes the inner shaft sound tricky to install. I am not a suspension expert by any streach of the imagination, and would rather not take anything apart that is unnecessary. Any guidance from someone with experience in these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Re: C1 front suspension
Ed, as far as caster/camber is concerned just get it as stright up and down on both planes as possible. I used a level for camber and just tried to get the spindle as on center between the outer fork as possible for caster. You are correct in your suspicion about the bushings on the lower inner though, as remember, it was a real pain in the a.. Hope this helps.- Top
