    Shipping Info

Can anyone recommend a freight company to ship four tires and rims from Illinois to Pennsylvania as cheaply as possible? Speed is not an issue as long as they get there.

    Thanks

greyhound bus but you have to go to the terminal to pick them up. we shipped racing tires but not wheels, that way and it was the cheapest but that was 5 years ago

I like using Freightquote.com to find the most aggressive price in surface freight. They've saved me LOTS of money over the years ESPECIALLY on international transactions. On a set of five wheels and tires going to London, England, the cost of boxing the items was almost as much as the final air freight cost!!!

So far the best price to ship to PA from Illinois is a $210.00. Ouch!!

I like the Greyhound bus idea, very novel approach.

Chris, Try R&L Carriers. www.rlcarriers.com. Business to business or Terminal to Terminal is the best rate. Dave

See if anyone here from PA is going to Bloomington, or from IL is going to Carlisle. There may be "friendlier" options too.

UPS shipping for five tires (three pieces - two of two tires wrapped together and a third wrapped single tire) from Diamondback in South Carolina to Michigan was $75.00.

Chris, about two years ago I had four 84 rims with mounted tires shipped from northeast(?) to Texas by FedEx. The quote at the time was about $80 total. I think the only thing that was done to them was a piece of round cardborad taped over the aluminum rim and nothing else-they shipped individually/not two wrapped or anything else. I would have thought that FedEx would have been one of the higher priced places but-they were the cheapest I found. Call the 800 number for them and ask for a quote, explain what you are trying to do, give them a pound estimate (47lb/tire(?)) and see what they say.

In my case, they arrived the very next day by air overnight for $550 instead of regular ground. I told the driver that I did not ship them air and that my quote was $80--FedEx did not charge me for anything including the $80 quoted. To me, that was a really good, good deal.

                  John,

In mid-January 2005, I had two 1995 Chevy C35 complete doors (power windows, locks, and mirrors) shipped from Denver, CO to Warren, MI. The cost thru R&L Carriers (Denver terminal to a business address) on a pallet, was $85.00. R&L's service area does not service much further west than Denver.

I also got four Chevy HD C25 tires on rims (steel), caps and lugs shipped from Las Veags, NV, in late March 2005, but were shipped thru DHL. Five pieces in all (caps and lugs in seperate box), each tire and rim weighed around 75 pounds, thru DHL the cost was $175.

I have used R&L quite a few times, for large or heavy items, shipping from a business address, They have always beat UPS rates by a wide margin. FWIW Dave
