    C3 Fuel Tank Build Sheet

I removed the fuel tank from my 1968. Sure enough, the build sheet was there. However, it was in very bad condition. It was covered with about 1/16 inch of oily dust and parts of the sheet had cracked off and were missing. I carefully dusted off the paper, it's very dirty, but a bright light and a magnifying lens, I can read it. (Its dated May 18, 1968) Fortunately, the parts of the sheet that had long since fell away, did not appear to be needed;i.e. were blank parts of the sheet.

My '68 is 37 years old. Many years from now, if someone once again removes the fuel tank, I'd like them to find the build sheet. The one I have really won't survive another 37 years!! Question: Does anyone know where I can get a duplicate build sheet made? Thanks

PS..... I'm not trying to do anything "funny" here. I plan to plastic laminate the original (or seal it in a plastic baggy) and place it back on top of my new tank. But I'd like to have another new clean build sheet made and place it there also.

I am sure this information is in the archives. That aside, you can go into the Driveline and find out who makes these things. Or, you can take a digital photo of your sheet and glue it to the tank for a poor man's repro build sheet.

Not sure where you can get another build sheet, but I've read other posts that recommend against trying to remove the sheet from the tank. Replace the tank with a repro from Quanta Products and take a lot of pictures.

There is someone in the drineline who can reproduce one for you for 25.00. Keep in mind it is like the window sticker reproductions available today. It is for resto/ display purposes only. If a trained eye looks at the tank sticker reproduction there are many deviations from original as with other reproduction documention. It is great for display purposes but it won't fool anyone who knows what original documents should look like. Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. I'll look in Driveline. I'm not trying to fool anyone into thinking it's the original. I will probably put what is left of the original in a plastic zip lock bag and place it back on the top of the tank along with the duplicate.

Thanks to others for previous suggestions. I really can't photo copy it. It currently is so dirty that the print can only be vaguely read with a large magnefying glass and a bright light. Yes, I should have been more careful in removing it. It was glued down and when I lifted it up, I tore a half dollar sized hole in the paper. However, the important text on the document was not interfered with.

            Howell,
I would check with a paper preservationist (sp?) at a museum, university or art dealer about the proper method to preserve your tank sticker. Putting it in a plastic might not be the best thing for paper, so I would check with an expert for such a valuable piece of "paper".
