    Tail Lamp Wicks

I'm currently trying to find a source for tail lamp wicks for my '73. Several years ago I ordered some from Paragon which was supposed to fit 58-73 tail lamps. Well, with that kind of range I had to wonder and upon receipt, they were too short. I don't think they were ever available from G.M. or I can't find them in my books. Are there any sources out there selling the correct ones for 68-73 ? As always, thanks in advance for your help. Tim #26883

    Re: Tail Lamp Wicks

Dr. Rebuild in Bridgeport Connecticut has them in their catalog. Saw them in there the last few days.P. 179 in catalog, $2.50 for a set of 4 part number 2660130, phone # 800-8669-DOC for orders only. 203-366-1332 for customer service, product info. etc. They are real strict about the 800 number for orders ONLY. Good luck,

Tim, Forgot to mention that Dr. Rebuild sells sets of these wicks for 58-67 and a different set for 68-73. The part number I gave you is for the 68-73 so should be the right ones.

Re: Tail Lamp Wicks - How Long?

              Tim,

How long are the 68-on-up wicks supposed to be? I used the short stubby Paragon ones and their still in place. If I need to I'll change what I have and get the longer ones too. TBarr #24014

                Mark,

There's a small circular opening at the bottom of the taillight lenses that will hold a cotton fiber "wick". It's in place to wick-out any mosture that might collect behind the lens. I don't remember the range of years that it applies to. TBarr #24014

Re: Tail Lamp Wicks - How Long?

Tom: The set I bought from Paragon should be at least twice the length to work correctly. I did call Dr. Rebuilt in CT. Although I had never dealt w/ that 'outfit', I'd heard many 'stories'. Let me put it this way, that guy does not have a future in Customer Relations ! My next question is: Does ANYONE else in the world sell these ? Wayne applied a line from a Seinfeld episode, on target !!! Tim

                            Re: Tail Lamp Wicks Installation

Tim, Make sure you install them correctly. They should stick out beyond the plastic lens about 1/16 inch and be slightly bent when installed to achieve this.

                              Glad you asked, Mark!!!

Definately glad you asked Mark. I hadn't a clue... infact I thought it was a joke referring to the fact that the tail lights aren't very bright and had candles in them! ....Well, I'm off to the garage and AIM to look up these babies and see if I have 'em.... Thanks! ~Juliet
