    Emergency brake cable

Hello everyone. I'm trying to hook my emergency cable to the pull handle. When I purchased this car,all the pieces were rusty and in boxes. How do you get the cable connected to the shaft. The shaft only goes to the end of the housing after I removed the stop pin.I need it to come out about 1 more inch. Can someone help me.My car is a 62 corvette.Does the handle have to come off?

    Thanks.........John

Pull the stop pin out, connect the cable re-install the pin. Stop pin comes out easy

sorry turn the shaft as you pull the shaft, should just come all the way out.You may be getting hung up on the locks.

        Hi Roy

Thanks for a response but I did that.I was not trying to pull the handle out, I was trying to see if it would go in further.I have it all the way in. I was looking in a book after I posted this and if I read it right,it looks like the tension is supposed to be released from the cable so it can be pushed up the shaft to be connected to the rod. That makes alot of sense and I know i'll need a helper. Is that what it is supposed to be?

        Thanks...John

You may be able to just disconnect the return spring under the vett or take the cable loose from the bracket under the vett install the cable , then reconnect.

            Hi Roy

I got under the vette and was able to get enough slack to hook it up.

            Thanks...John
