    seat belt dates

need help reading lap belt dates. Looking at a pair with the following dates 22E68 & 23E68 on the tags. I have a July built 1968.
Would these be acceptable for judging?

Should be 22nd and 23rd week of 68. The E has been muched discussed here. Some say the E means something other than the day of the week. IIRC, my 0-72 JG says E means Friday.

If E was for friday I would have liked that job. I know most tags I have seen have the E. One day a week is a good job.

I wondered about the "E" code for a long time too. Most belts I'd seen were E.

In talking with others, A, B and C have been noted, especially in the 69/70 era. I then checked out my own 1970 Olds Cutlass, and it has B dates. I still fins it unusual that early/mid 70s Corvette belts all seem to be Fridays, but having them batch built like that is not unusual.

Lyle, that is why I prefaced my comments that this was much discussed. Again, relying on memory (I am in NYC) but doesn't the 70-72 JG suggest that the E is indeed a day of the week? Like you and Patrick, the vast majority of dates I have seen are E. I have a small photo collection of very early 72s trying to resolve a seatbelt part number issue. They all have Es for day of the week.

              Gary

The E code may have some meaning for some years but most tags I have are E I will check from 72 up to see what I have.

As far as the seat belt part number I had to learn how to fix the retractors to make the plug on the retractors make the buzzers work for the PV on my 73's.In buying up belts at swap meets for parts I found that early 72's had no switch on the retactor. This may be why you found a part number issue. I think the change was about Nov.71.

The letters A B C E & F in the date stamp, represent the section of the plant where the belts were assembled. This information came from someone who worked for HAMILL MFG back in the early days. Clete
