    New Miracle Formula

Recently, several members have mentioned a new product that is supposed to be far superior to things like CRC 556 or WD-40. Neighbor is trying to replace front hyd brake hoses on his 64 and, as usual, the fitting on the steel line is frozen. The lines are still amazingly uncorroded but the fitting is still stuck to the pipe. Thanks

Was it PB Blaster? Seems to be a very popular rust breaker.

Kroil and PBblaster seem to be the most recommended. I've never tried Kroil but can say the PBblaster is a good product - far superior to Liquid Wrench. Spray early and often!

        Michael,
While sometimes nothing seems to work when you need it to, PB Blaster has served me better than anything else in that class of solvent. And I have been in the middle of some pretty corroded stuff over the past 2 years

Thanks guys, PB Blaster was the name I now remember hearing. Heard a lot of good things about it. Nice original car so I hope it works.

I've had good results with Kroil. It allowed me to remove / replace the non-stainless exhaust system on my '93 Mustang V-8 after 9 years / 143,000 miles without problems. All clamps simply unscrewed like they were new....none of them broke.

              Considering that WD-40

was not developed to be a rust breaker and I've found it to be only marginally better than plain water for that purpose, I would imagine just about anything would be viewed as an improvement.

WD stands for 'water displacement' as in 'Joseph Lucas ignition'

The best product I have found for this is

an acetylene torch. Heat the fitting to cherry red and then simply unscrew it. The fitting is corroded to the line at the flare. The heat will break it.

I have worked at two major Airlines as a Airframe and Powerplant Technician Kroil is the preferred method and recommended by Boeing and Airbus. Just let it soak awhile to penetrate.

I agree Mike. Heating the fitting would work. The only piece of equipment that he doesn't have in his garage to heat it with a torch, is the torch. I suppose a butane could be used instead but I'm not sure if that would work as it would take longer to heat the fitting which would also heat the tube at the same rate. Worth a try tho.

I suggested he purchase some PB Blaster, as others here have recommended, and he did so yesterday. Hopefully, the overnight soak will do it. Thanks.

                            Michael,

I work for a power company and supervise turbine generator overhauls. The machinist in our shop use nothing but Kroil and swear by it. It is the best penetrating product on the market.

As someone mentioned, a blue wrench works well also, but if you are trying to preserve any rubber products it's out of the question.

I have a small sample bottle of Kroil. Send me your address and I'll send it to you.

                            Best Regards,
