The judging manual says the center clamp should be painted semi-gloss black, and my car has received a deduction for it the last two times it was judged. There is no center hanger on a 69 small block, just clamps with a grounding strap.
Are we talking about the same thing? In the center of the car there should be a hanger that is painted black that sits between the transmission mount and the transmission. The exhaust pipes are cradled by it and the exhaust clamps go around the area that cradles the pipes. I reread the thread, I don't think I am being too unclear? I have checked the major catalogs and they all list that part being used in 1969 in bigblocks and smallblocks. It is the only thing in that area that is painted black. I would agree, the clamps are natural color. I have never seen the clamps painted for any reason. Hhmmm, interesting. Maybe I got this all wrong. Terry
Maybe I have installed the clamps incorrectly and they go further forward and up around a hanger. They were not hooked to anything when I took the old ones off and I didn't notice the AIM showing them up around a hanger. I will double check my AIM when I get home tonight.
