1957 STEERING BOX/COLUMN

What is the proper sequence for reinstalling the steering box when the body is off the frame?? Assuming the frame is complete with motor/transmission in place.

I removed the steering box when the body was gutted but in place and the frame was bare. IT was quite a task even then.

Mike: Suggest you simply...

...put the steering column in the car BEFORE you set the body on. Just tape it or tie it in the appropriate location so it does not bang around during body drop. Best, Dennis

with body divorced from frame (with engine installed), there's only one way. insert the assembled streering col thru firewall and thru dash and make a fixture to keep the col from damaging the firewall or dash. then drop body on frame.good luck, mike

...dumb answer about putting the column in prior to body drop. Having you answer questions that have already been answered may keep you in the "Top 25", but you'll never catch Joe Lucia. He actually knows stuff...

sorry i dumped on your response but it didn't pop up till after i'd typed my response. never did care much about being in the top 25 of anything and nobody will ever top joe till the ground hogs start delivering his mail. hope the 3 of us are around for another 25 years or so.mikie
