65 Steering Stabilizer

Hi guys! Can I get clarification on the correct finish for a 65 steering stabilizer? The JG states that it should be gray. However, the one I have dated 92-65, appears untouched with a black finish. Other originals for a 65 I've seen have been black as well.

Not 100% sure but I think I'm going to go with the black on this one. Could be completely wrong tho. I believe the GM replacement units were grey.

From 1963 to, at least 1965 the steering stabilizer was definitely black. Sometime after 1965 they changed to gray. I don't know if this happened before the PRODUCTION use of the stabilzer ended in 1968 or if it happened afterwards (for SERVICE examples).

Thanks Joe and Michael! Looks like the JG is in error, as I suspected. I'll keep it black when I repaint it.

The original one I took off my 66 was black, but had a little gray on the top side (like me ). I was told the black came from the black out process by someone on this board.
