    C3...Vacuum reservoir removal

On a 72 SB with power brakes, how do you remove the vacuum reservoir? Do you have to remove the master cylinder AND the booster, or can it be slipped out by only removing the master? You know how hard it is to remove the the power booster..........
    Thanks in advance

      Bruce,

My cars are not here for quick reference, but I might suggest that you could access it and remove it by removing the driver's side "gill" as well as the splash shield and the charcoal canister. While not easy, I'd do that 100 times before I'd remove a booster.

Why do you want to remove the vacuum reservoir?

Pat...there is a leak in it that needs to be fixed. It would be nice if it would come out the side grill opening. Being 6'4", even with the drivers seat out, the nuts on the booster are all but impossible to get at. I think the tank is just a bit too big to come out the opening. Thx

Too big for the gill opening, but also too big to drop straight down through the opening created by removing the lower splash shield?

Well, I was asking as question, not making a statement.
Is it too big to drop down through the opening made by removing the lower splash shield?
Again, my 2 cars are not on-site, so I can't check this myself. I'm just mentioning it as a possibility.

I'd think of every possibility of fixing the unit in place (i.e. sealant, JB Weld, etc) before removing the brake booster.

Thanks Pat and Mark....It's been a while since I've had to do this, but I'm very sure now that the only way is out the top. It can't be fixed where it is, it's in such an akward spot, that you might as well bite the bullet and do it right the first time!!! I'll let you know how I make out..............
