We own a 61 corvette that has been to Bloomington Gold and DUNTOV. We are recently having the transmission rebuilt and we are unsure of the date difference between the transmittion case and the tailshaft housing when concerning the car's build date. Our car is the number 1343rd built. Factory build date (approximate) is Early Oct., 1960. This is the 2nd month of production of the 1961 model year. The transmission case is stamped H-12-0- (H - August 12, 1960) The tailhousing has 3-1-60 (MARCH 1, 1960). According to the documentation from the previous owner, this is the correct transmation case. The tailhousing seems to be a longer amount of months before the cars build date (7 months). I was told correct parts need to be dated 3 months before built date. I am concidering finding a tailhousing dated closer to the built date while the transmission is being rebuilt. Is this necessary or is this date difference not unheard of? Awaiting information of this puzzling situation.
