    Side exhaust question

Experts: I have searched the arhcives and learned allot on this subject. I have decided after much pondering to added the N14. Yes, I have seen, riden, and heard them on short and long trips so that is not the issue. My L-36 sounds like a sewing machine, very quite, but I want the true factory N14 sound.
I have found a guy who bought NOS side exhaust mufflers for his frame off 65 BB from GM 5 yrs ago. He has a pair of used original factory side chambers, slight surface rust, super cond, and is willing to sell to me.

    Question(s)-

Should I buy these factory pipes or is there any NOS or someone out there that is making them with similiar OE tooling giving my 427 that true 66 sound. I do not want something really loud and obnoxious.

Side pipe Covers- Who makes these and where is the best place to get them?? I was told Corvette Central or Ecklers takes old/tired ones in and refurbishes them. I see them on GM restoration-parts.com ($649ea), not sure of their availability. I understand Ecklers is sold out till July. Who makes the best repro??

Does anyone have any pics of proper N14 installation?? I bought the NCRS restorer CD and there is a good article in there but the pics are poor. I have the AIM for my 66 but can anyone point me to a website or article or pics of proper install. I've had varying opinions that something has to be cut when installing N14 on a undercar exhaust car. I've already bent the rocker tabs up out of the way, what else???

Just learning guys.......any suggestions on the proper purchase of the exhaust, covers, and proper install.

    Much appreciated.

    Re: Side exhaust question

    Keith -

The installation, all the hardware, the front and rear body cuts, sill notching, front support bracket riveting, etc. are all shown in the N14 section of the Assembly Manual.
