Hello all,
Goint to try a headlight motor resto. Motors were fine but need cosmetic redo plus figured might as well throw new gears into them. on a scale of 1-10, ten being the most difficult, how easy or hard is this refurb for a novice? Any friendly advice also welcomed!!!
Thanks in advance
Tony D
Tony,
Not too hard at all. Get a good diagram from one of the catalogs, and follow the exploded illustrations. One of mine was simply hard to move, the grease had hardened to the point of a solid form. The other needed to have the motor rebuilt professionally, wouldn't spin!
Disassembly of unit, cleaning, and reassembly with lubrication is quite simple. Check the teeth on the gears, these can get gnarled and chewed up! I also lightly blasted mine in the cabinet and hit the non-aluminum case with a some cast blast paint. Good luck!
