I watch a mechanic remove the lower dash on my baby by lowing the steering column and pusing it down as far as it will go and twisting it to the right for removal. Now I removed the lower dash by removing the steering column completely. When they return my car to me the wipers, oil gauge. left speaker was not work, in addition, the left door light switch would not close/open properly resulting in the interior light staying on. Which method is correct?

Re: Removal of Lower Dash
'Dropping' the steering column (vs. full removal) is what Chevy called for in the Chassis Service Manual, so your mechanic followed the 'book'. Resultant problems you describe LH door light switch, LH speaker, WSW wipers & oil gauge have nothing to do with dropping vs. removing the steering column. In my opinion, they're simply casualties of attention to detail in reconnecting and properly routing behind-the-dash connections during the re-assy phase of the lower dash...- Top
