    C3 Vacuum reservoir availability

I pulled the reservoir out of my 72 today to find it stress cracked in 3-4 places. I don't know whether to braze it or use epoxy on it. It's such a job to get out, I'd like to be sure that it's fixed and going to hold before I re-install it. Is someone repopping these now? I looked in my latest issue from DR. Rebuild and don't see one.......Any input would be appreciated.

    no repo available

The only options to replace it are a NOS one or a used one. The unit is cracked because of the stresses of repeated vacuum application then release. They do commonly crack so you have to wonder if your used replacement has much life left either. Of the 4 cars I now have, two had the cracked reservoir, one had been previously repaired with epoxy and it cracked again too. I ended up brazing them both and so far no further problems.

      Bruce,

I think you answered your own question. If it is not easy to remove, then I would definitely braze it, smooth it out, prime it, and repaint it before reassembly.

      Just my 2 cents worth.

I would also stop drill the end of each crack before you braze it to prevent it from cracking further. A 1/8 drill bit should work fine and you have to make sure that you are at the very end of the crack too.

It would be good to use a Mighty Mite vacuum pump and test it several times before you put it back in. They are a bear to get in and out.

Jeff ...I have it out, putting it back in may be even harder. I removed the master cylinder, pb booster and side grille. I'm thinking I may have to pull the steering column to get it back in. I had my son to help me remove it, you need two sets of hands, but only myself to re-install. GM sure made it a tight fit!!!!!!!!!
