My correct bowtie outside mirror is loose at the crimp/swivel. Is there any remedy besides throwing away?? Thanks, Don

Re: Outside Mirror C2
I had the same problem. I recently changed the heater core and I used some left over 1/4" neoprene gasket material to cut a "spacer"that fits over the mirror mounting base and compresses when you reinstall the mirror. I cut the "spacer" with a razor blade using the bottom of the mirror where it fits against the mounting base as a guide. It is not visible from the outside. The spacer takes the slack out and it stopped my mirror from "wobblying" even when I had the mirror mounting bolt tightened as much as I dared.

The fix is relatively easy. Remove mirror from car, remove clip to remove glass. You will now see the problem. Give each of the peened over studs a wack to reset them and restore the tension on the ball socket. Put it back together and you are done.
Do not throw away your original mirror.- Top

Re: Outside Mirror C2-Snap to fix
Don,
Take a look at this thread in the archvies of last year. Loose Mirror- Snap to Fix:
The second post in the series has the picture of the setup and the rivets you have to give a few pops to.
Sure thought that this would be in the Restorer by now, it got accepted.

Re: Outside Mirror C2
If your mirror is a repro, and is glued in like some repros and 68 up mirrors with no retaining ring, then you have to soak it in lacquer thinner to get the mirror off. But then it's the same fix as Snap to Fix, but you have to glue the mirror back on.

Re: Outside Mirror C2
There has to be a trick to getting the ring out. I have broken the tip of two knife blades and three stainless steel picks off. I would love to get the ring out to peen the studs. What the heck is the trick, as I don't really want to buy a new one.
