The '66 judging manual states that the front coil springs should be black in appearance from coating for rust protection. I always thought they should be natural looking. I just acquired a low mile '66 and the springs have a black coating, but the car also has received some extra dealer coating on the springs. I'm not sure what is factory and what is extra.

Re: '66 front springs
Tim,
The front coil springs would have been natural, unpainted. It is POSSIBLE that there may have been a bit of light overspray in a few spots from the final blackout but not likely. I woulg guess that any black coating that you see on your springs was done by some previous owner.- Top
