    VIN certification label

Is there a "go-to" place of business to purchase the Blue Vin Label for the driver side door ? Moreover, I found a place to purchase the label, but they don't put the VIN number on them. How do you accurately place the VIN number on the Blue Label, or is there a location I can purchase this item completely done ?
    Thanks in advance.

The only source that I know of for these labels is M. F. Dobbins. However, there may be others, now. The ones from Dobbins are quite expensive and I don't know if that includes the application of the VIN number you need.

The original machine used to imprint the VIN number used an old-style cloth ribbon and that fact is readily apparent in the numbers so-imprinted. I would expect that if one obtained an old IBM Selectric Typewriter with the proper font element (snap-in "ball" of which there were once MANY different font sizes and styles available) AND a cloth ribbon ( I don't know if you can purchase these anymore, or not), then one could probably do a pretty good job of duplicating the as-original imprint. Those are a lot of "ifs", though, and tracking down and purchasing all the stuff you need might be impractical for a person just wanting to do it once.

      Thanks Joe, appreciate the input.
I have a nice, #'s matching car, but an old paint job from the past and the Certification Label didn't make it to the door. I've since stripped the incorrect color and have it down to the glass.
Just trying to find out where to get the label and how to get the numbers on there, if in fact, it can be done. There are lots of other decals, stickers reproduced, I didn't know this one was that difficult.
      Thanks again.

They sell on E-bay blank labels all the time but as with lots of decals they are not 100% correct. You need to study Corvettes of your year to see how the typed information was put on. When weights were used options made the numbers change. It is hard to get the information correct unless you find a known original of the same year, body type, and options. The end result is a good judge will be able to tell what you have and give a score as how correct it looks.

For 1969, the only imprinted information was the month/year of manufacture and the VIN number. I think that this was the same for 1970, as well. After that, I think that additional information may have been added.

            Joe,
The format of the imprinted information changed Jan 1, 1972. 1969 (beginning in September 1969, I think), 1970, 1971 and 1972s built in 1971 calendar year had the VIN with month and year. 1972s built in January 1972 and later -- actually off the end of the assembly line at those times, not body build dates -- had the addition of the vehicle (front, rear and gross) weights.
The earlier style label used the protect-o-plate to emboss the VIN number on the blue label. The date (month and year) was typed on the tag.
All this is in the TIM&JG.
FWIW: I have yet to see an accurate reproduction of this label.

              Thanks for all your help/input.
I have the TIM & JG and it does show the correct format for the different years. Just letting you know I do have that manual, not just throwing out questions for quick answers from the experts.
I didn't know the labels weren't produced in this fashion, so I learned something new.
Guess I'll get a blank label and do the best I can. Better get a few labels !
