    1967 big block heat shields

Can anyone help. The rectangular heat shields for under car exhaust that attach to the exhaust pipes. Are they natural or are they painted black. My judging manual does not address it.I've seen them both ways on several cars. Thanks for any help. Lou

    Louis-----

If the shields to which you refer were ever painted black, they couldn't have remained that way for very long. Installed as they were on the forward exhaust pipes, exhaust heat would have "cooked" the paint off very quickly. In the old days, high heat paints hadn't been "invented yet" and, as far as I know, GM never used any sort of paint on Corvettes that would withstand high heat.

Even today, I doubt that any of the available high heat paints would last very long on these shields.
