Joe, Sorry I couldn't respond to you sooner, but I haven't been able to access the DB until today. I just called my friend, he was at work and couldn't remember his exact serial number. He said it's either #4596, or #4956, but it was definetly built in Oct '68. How original was the #5854 car that you said didn't have them? Sounds like the middle to end of Oct might have been the change over point.

Re: Missing Seatbelt Clips on Early '69's
Carmen,
Thanks for your response, and no problem with the delay. Between the White Screen and problems switching my ISP, this is my first time to the board in over a week. But back to your question, the curreent owner of car #5854 has had it since 1970 and claims the seats were never changed. I imagine that there was probably some variability of the change over point depending upon the seat color and material (leather vs. vinyl). #5854 had black vinyl seats. The "1969 Stingray Guidebook" mentions that the seats without the clips in #5418 are vinyl, but gives no color.

69 Seatbelt Clips
Picked up a set (at Carlisle) of 69' Seatbelt Clips that hold the lap belts in the front of the seat, when not in use. They didn't have the fasteners with them. What is the correct fastener, and where can I get them. Also, I was not able to find where they fasten to the seat frames. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !!- Top

Carmen:
Mine are secured with philips head counter sunk flatheads, I believe them to be correct. The mounting holes position the clips dead center of the seat on the lower seat frame rail, it is possible yours are hidden by seat covers or that your lowerr seat frame has been replaced and never drilled for these. Best of Luck.

Missing Seatbelt Clips on Early '69's
I have been told that the missing seat belt clips will be noted for early '69's in the next edition of the 68'69 Judging Manual. In the "1969 Corvette Guidebook" by Rick Bizzoco, it lists a VIN 5418 without the clips and a VIN 9745 with the clips. In my own research I have noted a '69 with VIN 5854 (same owner since 1970!) without the clips. Maybe someone else can narrow down the switch over point a little better. By the way, none of the early '69's I have personally observed without the clips had the '68 center console with the seat belt buckle storage "holes", so the belts just have to lay around on the floor if not used.

Re: Missing Seatbelt Clips on Early '69's
Thanks Jerry,Jerry,& Joe. My car is a very early car SN# 1024 (early Sept). This makes sense, because I see no holes in the frame of the seats, and my interior appeared very original when I restored it. I have a friend who is the original owner of his 69', and he actually found the parts for me at Carlisle. I believe his car was built in October/November time frame. I'll double check with him on his serial number. I'm positive he has them on his car. I'll post as soon as I find out. Thanks again. If this turns out to be true, I'll probably have a set for sale!!!- Top

Re: 69 Seatbelt Clips
Carmen,
As a side note, I'm surprised you found someone who would sell you just the clips. Tow years ago at Carlisle I checked all over, and no one would sell me the clips without the attached seats. I had to buy two bad seats and drag them back to Michigan just for the clips! Of course, I also got a few other parts that way...

Re: 69 Seatbelt Clips
Hello Carmen:
Well this is a perfect example of the "it's never too late to learn" principal. having owned / restored quite a few of these cars I was unaware that this was a running change in 69 production, you have my apology if it caused you any inconvenience.

Re: Missing Seatbelt Clips on Early '69's
Carmen,
The 1969 Stingray Guidebook also lists a VIN very close to your without the clips, VIN 1032.
As to you friends Oct. or Nov. '68 built car with them, the VIN 5854 I have seen without them, would have been built on Oct. 28, 1968 according to the Corvette Birthday Book. The 1969 Stingray Guidebook lists VIN 9745 with the clips as having an "E06" (Dec. 6, '68) date code. I assume this is the Trim Tag Date date code. Therefore it is indeed possible that a '69 Vette built in very late Oct. or Nov. '68 might have the clips.
If you friend doesn't mind, please do post the details about his car. I'd like to nail down the switch over point a little better. Thanks.
