Crane's Corvette in San Diego

I'm doing a full body-off restoration of my '64 Fuelie Coupe. The work is being done by one of the best guys in the north east.

We need some parts for the fuel injection system. I located the parts at Crane's Corvettes in San Diego, but my restorer said ABSOLUTELY NO to ANYTHING from Crane's.

This is in no way intended to slam or attack Crane's. I'm just seriously wondering if any of you have had positive or negative experiences dealing with Crane's and/or the quality of their parts, etc.

Any heads-ups would be greatly appreciated.

I have used David for a 490 intake manifold on my 67 and A.I.R. system, plus some original trailing arms. All were quite nice parts and cleaner than most. He is a bit pricey and irritating to talk to, but the quality of the parts were good. I suspect if you have an item you were not satisfied with, it may be hard to return. He was prompt on shipping and I had no issues personally after you get past his personality.....he does have some nice original rust free parts that were better than many I have seen from other suppliers...Craig

David Crane is an "extremely interesting and unique individual". I have not had the need to purchase very much from him, so I can't speak from too much experience. David can be a little "slow to ship" and sometimes he needs a few "reminders" that you still want what you ordered. I recall that I did get a set of big block valve cover drippers from him and I had to go through this "drill". However, the drippers were excellent and are not easy to find minus attached valve covers. David reproduces these himself, as he does a fair number of other parts.

I think that one of Dave's problems is that he spends a little too much time in "leveraged negotiating" or wrestling with "Hollywood". It's just too much of a distraction for him, as well it would be for you or I.

I've found David to be ok, though. Personally, I wouldn't rule him out as a supplier. However, I would regard him as a "specialty" supplier rather than a "general" supplier.

I recently purchased some parts from Crane's and am quite satisfied. The parts were excellent and shipping was prompt. The price for what I received was satisfactory.

I purchased an intake manifold and big block valve covers at Carlisle 2 years ago from him. He is a bit quirky and pricey but I have NO complaints about the parts.

There just aren't too many places that have REAL fuel injector parts.

Exactly what do you need?

Eddie, there are about two dozen people around the U.S. who specialize in Rochester injection repairs and have used FI parts on hand. Almost all of these people are honest and price their parts fairly. I'll be glad to give you their contact info. I know FI parts aren't carried by AutoZone, but they're not limited to one source (who fades in and out while talking to you), either.

There are also professional vendors (like Jim Guck in NY) who sometimes have NOS FI parts in stock. However, I've found they won't respond to a phone message or e-mail if they don't have what you're seeking. That's barnular behavior in my opinion, but my daughter says I'm "antiquated". She may be right. After all, I still say "thank you" instead of "no problem".

I stand corrected.

I've been informed that "no problem" in child-speak is actually intended to mean "you're welcome" rather than "thank you".

I'll never get it. I don't even look like a hepcat. All my ball caps have the bill on the front, and my pants completely cover my underwear.

What does "barnular" mean?

I'm one of those persons who grabs a dictionary when I see a word I don't know the meaning of, or haven't seen before. I couldn't find "barnular" listed. I know slang terms are not usually found in the dictionary until they are considered mainstream. Is this a made up slang term?

On the original question poised. Try Mike at AFC (America's Finest Corvettes), 760-789-8423. He sells to Crane and reproduces a ton of C2 stuff. Not sure how much retail business he does but very helpful.

Utterance of words similar to'barnular' (barring an innocent spelling mistake) can be considered an act of cromulance. Although I've never met Jerry personally, his comportement on the VH site leads me to believe that he is not generally given to such embiggening behaviour.

...is that typical of someone who was raised in a barn by animals.

I don't know why it isn't in your dictionary. This word was in common use in my household when my daughter was young.

Mike at AFC is totally not reliable. I would be careful dealing with him. I have had problems with him and I know of others that have too. He used to have a website that you could sign and make comments on. People started to post their complaints. Website has changed. I posted some negative feedback there once and about 10 people contacted me expressing the same problems. You have to be careful who you deal with in the business. Take your time. Parts are out there. Find new sources. Terry

Jerry has a wacky sense of humor (we need more of BTW) but is one of the most respected F/I gurus around.
