    Driveline ad

I guess I just wonder if anyone else has the same reaction to the ad I found yesterday in the latest Driveline in the 3rd column on page 22:

"1963 Corvette original VIN tag for sale. Parted

out 1963 coupe with VIN tag, red on red. Also

black on red. Call (716)648-4045. Member

    #9237"

I don't know if I know this member. I do know one thing: I own one of these cars and it seems to me it has just been placed in even more danger of being stolen. I realize that threat has been around for 42 years but does the leading Corvette club in the hobby have to aid and abet?

    Re: Driveline ad

    Loren,

I also saw the ad, but because there is no color/trim declaration on a 63 "VIN" tag, I assumed the person was really selling just the "Trim" tag.

I don't think it would be to smart to publically advertise a real VIN tag for sale with out the title and car with the deal.

      vin tags for sale

It is illegal in EVERY state that I know of to sell a vin tag that has been removed from a vehicle - just report him to the police and they wil take care of it.

While you're at it report our Board of Directors for accessory to theft!

          gimme a break!

The board of directors cannot be held responsible for the content of each ad, but if the seller is truly selling a VIN tag, where do you think it is going to end up? Do you think somebody is going to "restore" a complete car from just a VIN tag? NOPE! It's going to end up on a stolen car and some sucker is going to buy that car and end up with a problem.

The reason it is illegal to sell VIN tags in every state (and rosette rivets in nearly every state)is that is exactly what DID happen! You can choose to ignore such dealings, but when YOUR car is stolen and peddled then you have only yourself to blame. I think we all need to take a more proactive attitude and watch out for each other, including stopping the flow of "clean" VIN tags for the stolen cars.

I hope your car isn't next!
