Does anyone know of a "cook book" for installing a new windshield glass in a 60 vette?
Also, was a 15" dia steering wheel ever offered for a C1? An online auction claims it is an original. I thought all steering wheels were 17" dia.
Thanks
I know of absolutely NO 15" OD steering wheel ever being originally used, optionally or otherwise, on ANY 1953-62 Corvette. At least, one was never installed by GM or, even, available from GM as an accessory item for owner or dealer installation. Of course, the aftermarket may have had such things available.
The cookbook for the windshield, and just about everything else on a C1,is the ST12 service manual, available from the NCRS bookstore or any of the catalog vendors. The 15" wheels you see advertised are "original design". but obviously not original wheels.
Check the archives for useful articles. The NCRS CD-ROM also has a good article on windshield replacement. That is what I used as a reference to remove the windshield and replace it on my 1960. Make certain that you have all of the bolts loosened before you try to remove the windshield frame assembly. If you miss one of the bolts under the dash, you will break one or both of the tabs. Determine the number of bolts shown in the AIM and see if you have that many nuts in hand before you lift it off.
There are 12 nuts to remove. 4 1/2", 8 7/16. One of the small ones is hidden under the left defroster duct which will probably have to be removed for access.
