64 Rear View Mirror - Interior

    Dear Mike,

My 64 has backup lights and is a late Oct 63 assembled car. What are the assembly dates of your two cars? Does the day nite mirror tie up with backup lites?

I guess your questions asks did your car get an early 65 mirror? My question is , for the owners of 64 cars with backup lites, do you have a day nite mirror?

Have a late '64 (19201) with a regular mirror, not a day/nite one. Date code 4DMI2. Have had the car for a long time, and mirror was in car when purchased. Hope this helps.

64 Rear View Mirror - Interior

I have read in several reliable sources including the judging manual that the 64 came only with the chrome interior mirror and not the day/nite style. Does anyone have an early 64 with what appears to be a day/nite mirror? Mine looks very original and with a faded knob. The car also has backup lights. Was this dealer installed? In addition, when referencing the AIM...it list a part number 910453 for the mirror and then a part 3849571 as an optional mirror, it also has revision note on 10-8-63 that the original parts were 3770185 and 86. What were these changes?

I have no personal knowledge of exceptions, special features, etc., but the day/night mirror was supposedly not available as an option in 1964. I think it became available in 65 as part of the "comfort and convenience" option. The back up lights were a factory option, not dealer installed. Hope this helps. Chuck

          Chuck,

Do you have any idea why the AIM lists an optional mirror in the Bill of Material? Or what that optional mirror looked like? I was hoping Joe Lucia may know what that part number represented.

Not sure, Dino, as I don't have a 64 AIM. The listing of options for that year do not show an optional mirror, or a "comfort and convenience" group that might have contained it. My neighbor has a 64 AIM. I'll check. Hopefully, others with more knowledge will respond. Chuck

Re: 64 Rear View Mirror - Interior

Hi Again Dino. I THINK what it might refer to is the so called second design 63 style mirror. "Early" 63's used the mirror with rivets and the Guide stamp on the back and have no date code. "Late" 63 and 64 mirrors were the solid back without rivets and without the Guide stamp. These were date coded. My July 63 assembled 63 roadster has the original "early" style mirror. So, how early is early and how late is late? Maybe this is a carry over from the 63 AIM. When the early mirrors were used up, they had only the late style left to use. I know that there were no Day/Night mirrors offered in 63 and 64. Maybe this explains it. Chuck

HI! Gentlemen, I'm the owner of two 64 coupes, the first one is a late air, automatic car,I was the third owner bought the car in 1979. This car was never taken apart so I know the int. mirror was never changed, it had a FACTORY day-night mirror. My second car is a early 64 fulie I'm the third owner again. This fuelie is original NEVER,NEVER apart it has a 1963 mirror with TWO rivets. My question is were is the change over time frame? How can someone say ones right and ones wrong?
