    '72 headlight bezel material

My '72 convertible is a relatively late car, build date of June 13th.
The judging manual states the headlight bezels are to be metal; fiberglass bezels started with the '73 cars. My car had one of each, metal on the right and fiberglass on the left. Both were painted with what appears to be original factory paint and primer. Also, both show the same overspray pattern on the back side. I have stripped the paint from the car and see no signs of damage/repairs to the front of the car, and the left headlight assembly and door again appear to be original and both show the same factory primer. Thus I can not find an apparent reason to have changed the left bezel.
My question, has anybody else with a late '72 have fiberglass bezels which they believe to have been installed at the factory?
    Thanks,
    Mike

The change for 73's happened in about Nov. 72 not when the model year started. If you plan on your car being judged it may be best to find a metal one. Things happen but they are sometimes hard to prove.

Check carefully for a manufacturing date on the rear of the plastic bezel. Sometimes you will find an embossed date. If so, it will pretty much settle the issue one way or the other. Please report what you find.

First, thanks to all that replied. I think I will go ahead and find a metal bezel.
Joe, here are all the numbers I can find on the plastic bezel and the order in which they appear:

            50385
            PT# 331817 LH

            TPI
There are no other markings. Is the 50385 a date code? How to decipher?
            Thanks,
            Mike

It could be a date code, but I don't know how to decipher it. The most obvious, I suppose, would be May 3, 1985, but I couldn't say that for sure. This part was still in production at that time, so that date would be possible.
