    Frame identification

Can anyone tell me anything from this frame identification number? It is stamped on the drivers side on the top of the main frame rail.

    5108051

    Thanks as always. Brian

    Re: Frame identification

5108051 is the year and sequential number portion of the serial number of the car this frame was originally mated to on the day it was built by the General. 108051 is the 8,051st 65 built. The first 5 represents 1965.

This number was to be stamped twice on the drivers side. On the top of side rail under the step plate area of the door jam openning. The second one further back on the upper side of the kick-up just in behind the left rear wheel.

I have seen frames on which I could only find one stamping. Many have been in climtes where it is no lomger possble to detect either stamping.

A number significant to the term "all numbers matching", but seldom checked or thought of until after purchase. A number some look for later in ownership but never find.

      Re: Frame identification

As Wayne has correctly pointed out there should be an S after the first 5. I checked a bare frame to be sure. Joe Tripoli's book "Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide" shows some examples. This book is available from NCRS and can be found elswhere on this site.
