    Re: Dust shields??

re dust shields gene manno it's easy for me to tell you how to do it remove wheel brake caliper drill out rivets on brake rotor if not done all ready this part just makes handling spindle easier remove shafts then remove cotter pin castle nut on spindle now the splined yoke should slide off if you are lucky you can press off the spindle from it's press fit with the bearings with one of those spindle removing tools if not you will have to remove the entire trail arm and put it in a press once the spindle is removed ya can get to the four nuts and gain access to the backer plates at this point you can knock out the spindle support casting from the trail arm to repack or replace bearings and restore the rest of the trail arm assembly while ya have it all apart if your car is real clean this is easy but if it's very rusty and press fit is a your not in for a good time

re dust shields gene manno to shim the spindle brg's correctly once you replace the taper roller brg's a dial indicator with a magnet base will help to get the to clearance i like to see axial corvette jobbers sell assorted spacer ring kits to achieve this spacing between the brg's be sure to use a good wheel bearing grease and not gun grease pack them brg's good make this a one time job original assemblies are press fit both inner and outer brg's i take the spindle down to a lighter tap press personal taste
