63 Air Cleaner Element

Thanks for the research, Ken. My ('63) foam element broke at the bond while I was cleaning it in 1968, and I ordered a replacement from a Chevrolet dealer. The replacement was paper, so the service foam elements must have been gone by then. I agree with other posts that the repro foam is fine for shows or judging, but I'd use the paper element for driving. The A353C paper element can be ordered through the Delco channel, hopefully in quantities of one.

Ken, I have a '63 built, as I recall, in May. It has a base engine with the dual snorkle air cleaner. To the best of my memory (I am the original owner), it never had a foam element, as I am sure I would have resisted the switch to a paper filter. But, perhaps I'm coming into the middle of this discussion and only the Hi Perf engines had the filter you are referring to.

My 65, 300HP had the foam element as I remember oiling it at times. The current ones have foam pores that are too big versus the orginial one. I have an old orig. that is just falling apart everytime you touch it. Guess the ozone attach the foam over the years.
