    Green inspection mark C3??

    I just pulled the fan pulley for repainting from a C3 73 L48 and noticed a radial green mark on the pulley. Is this a factory mark? Would this have any bearing on orientation of the fan or pulley or was/is this just an inspection mark or none of the above? Also what would be the correct color for the A.I.R belt pulley for this car?

    If memory serves, starting in '72 parts supplied to the line (water pump and fan clutch) were each ink marked with 'hi' vs. 'low' rotational imbalance points. Assemblers were told to install them by lining up the ink marks to achieve an optimal assy balance profile (there's a note calling out the proceedure in the AIM book). Perhaps this is what you're refering to...
