    Polishing Door Sills

I would like to clean up my '61 door sills. Are they "naked" alluminum or coated in some way? I will need to perform some light sanding to get rid of the scratches and successively polish them back. Any tips?

    Re: Polishing Door Sills

    Mike,
The sill plates are anodized aluminum. You can sand and polish the sills, but the anodized surface is what made the surface durable. You have two options, either continue to polish the sills on a regular basis, or send the sills out for clear anodizing after polishing. In addition, the anodized surface will lose a little of the shine that polishing imparted to the aluminum. This is just the nature of anodizing. Polished sills will normally appear as brighter and more shiney than anodized sills.
