    Light Overspray Removal

OK....I screwed up and I need some help. I have a beautiful, freshly painted Frost Blue '59, about 98% complete in my two bay downstairs workshop....that's the good part. Here come the bad part....I completely lost my mind yesterday when I began to spray, with an enamel spray bomb, just outside the open garage door, some other items (honey-do's). When I was finished, I just then realized that the wind was blowing into the door and all over the front of my car. You can't see anything on the car, and a California car duster won't take it off, but when you lightly touch the surface it's rough to the touch, contrary to what it was the day before. And yes.....I have a car cover but it wasn't in place!

Now for the question....How do I remove this stuff without scratching my precious paint job? Meguire's cleaner wax or what?

I would start with a cleaner/polish first. If you are lucky, with a little "elbow grease" you can remove the overspray. If this does not do it, I guess a little white rubbing compound would be in order.

A clay bar will do the job and can be purchased at most any auto paint stores

        Brad:

NO!!!! Do not use an abrasive, at first. If the boo-boo is still fresh, then start with a mild solvent, like good ole' gasoline, or paint thinners.
If your car is painted in lacquer, then you should be more careful, if BC/CC/Urethane, then it will take much more abuse. If BC/CC ONLY, as a last resort, you can apply some lacquer thinner to a clean rag, let most of it flash off, and then gently rub off the boo-boo.
Apply a fresh coat of wax when you have gotten rid of the boo-boo.

Try the Clay bar first. Then check Meguiars & 3M they have products to remove over spray. Suggest you try the clay bar first.

Use a Clay bar available at most stores that sell car wax. I have a Zaino but I have also seem them at NAPA made by 3M. Use plenty of mequiars or zaino car wash mixed in a spray bottle. Keep it nice and wet when using the clay bar and it should come right off.
Been there, done that except that I got overspray on my son's car which was outside the garage.

            Good luck...Mike

              Brad,

I would first try a prep-sol type product and if that didn't work then the clay. Mineral spirits or enamel paint thinner would do the job on the enamel overspray but I would try a test area before going to far.

Thanks for all the positive responses without razzing me about my goof-up! I'm going to buy some prep-sol, a clay bar and some good cleaner/polish tomorrow!
