    Trico wiper insert install

Feel like an idiot, but I cant figure-out how to remove the rubber wiper insert and metal support frame. Previous owner has Anco blades, which are still very nice, but on a Trico arm. Have the correct Trico insert, just can't figure out how to take the Anco off and get the new one on. Can anyone help?
    TIA

Tim - What year car are you dealing with? For '63-'67 Corvettes TRICO supplied the arms but both TRICO and ANCO supplied the windshied wiper (w/s/w) blade assemblies, so the TRICO blade assemblied, i.e. holders and refills, were made up of TRICO components and ANCO blade assemblies were made up of ANCO components. 63-67 TRICO OEM w/s/w blades were serviceable, and refills were available from GM and auto parts dealers; while 65-67 ANCO OEM w/s/w blades were by design not serviceable so GM did not sell refills for these blades but it is possible to put new refills in the ANCOs. They had to do it originally.

Please note that the TRICO refills will not directly fit in OEM ANCO holders. Generally, one has bend one of the end tabs on the holder and these won't take too many bends before they break off.

My car is a 66. It has the Trico wiper arms. I'm trying to put Trico refills on the arms but can't figure out how to remove the old ones.

          Re: Trico wiper insert install

Tim - The end of the arms have a "dot" coming out of the top of the arm about 3/4" from the end and a corresponding "dimple" into the under side of the end of the arm

I'm still not clear if you are trying to remove ANCO w/s/w holders or TRICOs, so I'll do my best to describe each.

ANCOs - The original ANCO have a spring catch with a hole that locks on to the "dot" on the top of the arm. The end of the spring has a "T" shaped piece where the clip on the w/s/w holder fits on to the arm. With the wiper arm and blade assembly lifted off the windshield, lift the clip with a small (very small) flat screw driver and rotate the wiper blade assembly downward slightly and the wiper blade assembly should come off the "dot." Then wiggle the blade assembly to work it off the end of the arm. If the blade assembly has been on the arm for some time, it will take a bit of wiggling. Be tenacious, but not brutal.

TRICOs - TRICOs have a hole in the top of the clip that goes on to the arm "dot" and a spring clip that has a "dot" on it that goes into the "dimple" on the underside of the arm. With the wiper arm and blade assembly lifted off the windshield, push down on the spring clip and rotate the wiper blade assembly downward slightly and the wiper blade assembly should come off the "dot." Then wiggle the blade assembly to work it off the end of the arm. Again, if the blade assembly has been on the arm for some time, it will take a bit of wiggling.

Take care and take your time, the blade assemblies will come off the arms. Good luck, Pete

            Thanks Pete,

Will give it a try when I get home. The wiper blade inserts that are on the arms now are incorrect Anco. Trying to replace with correct Trico.
