    C2 L79 Alternator belt length?

I am looking for the correct length alternator belt for a C2 L79.
NO Air, NO PS, NO PB. I think the one I have is too long. I have to pull the alternator all the way back in the arm slot for proper tension.

The TM&JG says it should be 3/8" wide but does not specify a length. I looked for one last night at an auto parts store but all they had was a Gates with the notches in it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

        Wayne,

I should have been more specific. I think that number is for a '65. I think a '67 used a 3861946. Do you know if they are the same length?

        Thanks again...Mike

          # 3861946 shows as 54" even

I should'a specified that the other belt was for '65.

Sometimes I forget they made other Corvettes

            Mike,

I just replaced the alternator on my '66 L79 for the same exact reason. I bought one at Autozone. Nothing fancy, but they come in a varity of lengths. I Found one that was about 1/2" shorter, #15540-11AV1370 and now the alternator adjustment is about in the middle with the proper tension.

              Wayne,
What would be the part number and proper length for a 1967 L79 with PS but no AC or AIR?
              Thanks, Rick

Rick, I believe that it is the same #3861946. I looked on the Quanta web site at their GM restoration belts and it lists the same #

If you are going to use Quanta belts get them from Quanta and not from LIC, they sell a generic size that is too long and they don't care to correct this issue.

Re: C2 L79 Alternator belt length?

My car and engine is the same as yours. I bought two belts from two different vendors that were original in appearance for a L-79. They were both too long. After some discussion with a couple vendors, I bought a small block belt for a base motor (300HP) and it fit perfect, the alternator bolt is right in the middle of the arm slot. Don't know what the confusion is with the vendors though. PT
