    Torq Thrust D Wheel Spacer

I was reading the messages about how the current Torq Thrust D wheels would work with a spacer, but a spacer is not recomended. My questions are how thick would this spacer have to be for a 15" x 6" Torq Thrust D wheel? And arent the knock off wheels spaced out 3/8" by the adapter with no ill effects? Thanks for your comments.

I am nearly certain you can get them that are made to fit without the spacer. They started reproducing the older designs. I would never use a spacer on an aluminum wheel, they flex too much and you have to constantly be checking them, especially if you get on it once in a while. Call them or look them up on the internet. They also make them in 16 and 17 rims I believe. Let use know. Later, Terry

Re: Torq Thrust D Wheel Spacer

The problem with spacers isn't the distance as much as the lugs. If you use tapered seat lug nuts, then you run out of stud length before getting a good attachment. You need to have at least as much stud length in the nut as the stud diameter as a rule of thumb. Long ago, NCCC required at least 9 turns on a nut to be considered safe for competition.

If the wheels use the barrel type mag nut, then you can get longer nuts to ensure they reach in on the short stock studs. However, then you have to ensure they are not bottoming the shank against the drum/rotor when tightened.

You should also use the open ended lugs of this type to ensure they don't bottom the top of the nut on the end of the stud.

The knock-off wheels are spaced but this does not affect the connection since the nuts are fully attached on the studs.

          Another AR Option...

...is their Model CL-205 wheel. The spokes are curved (sometimes called banana style) to clear the calipers and a spacer is not needed. These 15 x 6" units are on my 1967.
