    Rust

What would be clues of rust on any part of bird cage? If I wanted to inspect birdcage around pillars would I be able to view metal if I took interior molding off around windshield ? C2 coupe. Thans, Don

    Re: Rust

As I'm a C-3 kinda guy Don (a 68) I'll run on the assumption that there isn't much difference between the two.

You might be able to see most of what you need to see by just looking up as far as you can with a bright light under the dash to the lower windshield frame assembly. If you see any evidence of water streaking or more importantly rusted streaking of any significance, then I'd start getting concerned.

It's hard to get a clear picture if the fire wall insulation is in place, but IF water is migrating into the cockpit area it should still be evident.

Second, I'd pop the kick panels off by each door pillar and look into the channel area for significant rusting. You should be able to see up along where the windshield frame mates to the door pillar. Again, if you see significant rusting in theses areas, then it's a pretty safe bet that there's something going on under and around the windshield for sure.

I was also able to see the sill edges from undernieth and found mine to be cheezy just by looking at the edges. I then popped the sill plates and popped out the plastic plugs in the glass to get a very small view of the sills themselves. Mine crumbled like pie crust when I poked it with the probe.

If your thinking about buying this ride and the owner will let you pop off the interior moldings, then all the better. If you own it, all the better yet It should be immediately evident with the moldings off and you can see the bare cage.

Hope this helps as I see you didn't get any bites on your question.

    Regards,

    Chuck
