    FLAT AND LOCK WASHERS

A visit or call to one of the Corvette dismantlers (shudder....) is likely to find you what you need. Just give them the exact measurements of what you are looking for and they will scrounge in their bins for you if you ask nice (usually). I'm sure Paragon's vintage parts division could help you. It will cost more than your local hardware store however, due to their time.

You can also order *exactly* what you want from companies such as:

www.accuratescrew.com You specify exactly what you want and they make it. They keep lots of stock so may already have what you are looking for. Check out the web site. But you have to choose from 19 materials (you'll want steel), and about 56 different finishes! I've had some special stepped bolts made for a thermal imager mounting application where I work. Cost goes down if you can get the quantity up of course. They'll give you a quote if you ask.

    Regards,

    FLAT AND LOCK WASHERS

Has anyone found a supplier of flat and lock washers that are of the orginal thickness as they were in the mid 60s. All bolt and hardware suppliers state they are thinner now to save material but think somebody makes the orginal thickness but to date have found no names.

If you gave some dimensions we could easily check the supplies many of us have on hand and then perhaps give you the answer you seek.

It appears from 3/8" through 9/16" are all thicker for flat and lock washers compared to what is available today. I am missing one 7/16" flat washer right now used on the rear swing arm bolt that goes through the shims and connect the frame and swing arm. It is approximately 59/64"(.922") diameter and approximately 7/64"(actually it measures.114") thick. SAE standards indicate the thickness is what an existing 9/16" washer is. I have tried several bolt suppliers, dealers and hardware stores and have had no luck.
