headlight micro switch

what is the purpose of the micro switch ? left headlight will go up if i turn the knurl knob by hand a little .is the micro switch suppose to stop the motor from over tighting in the down position . or is that a dead stop. what would make the motor knuling knob get tight? thanks all............

Microswitch turns OFF the dash board 'HEADLIGHT' warning lamp. When both buckets in open in their fully up position(s) each microswitch is depressed which open circuits current flow through the warning lamp.

As stated, the switch only controls the warning lamp on the dash. The gears in the headlite motor are probably binding from repeated "jamming" New ones are available from most vendors.
