Does anyone know if the C3 seat belt retractor was used on any other GM products? I was lucky enough to get used belts and retractors from a friend who found some in a C3 that was being "partially" restored. The belts are salvagable, but one retractor is broken. Specifically, I need a retractor for a '72 convertible.
You can rob the retractor out of another set of belts of that vintage. I believe that most GM used the same retractor. I can be tricky to replace them, but it has been done. Remember it is your life that you are taking a chance with, don't shortcut anything when you relace the retractor.
Randy,
I have a '72 and my belts were pretty rough. I had them rebuild by a member of the forum who happens to be a NCRS judge. He did a great job and everything is fully functioning again. If you email me I can give you his number. Might be a better alternative to sending them to some of the very expencive shops or the headache of doing it yourself.
