Ed, I used the threaded rod method on my '58, used 1/2"-13. I bolted the lower inner A-Frame shaft to the frame first, then positioned the spring. I also used the old thrust bearing from the king pin on the top of the threaded rod to make tightening easier. Worked pretty well. I have some pictures of it if you need to see them.

C1 Front springs
Hi, Real good to see the board back. I have checked multiple times per day for several days now, wondering if it would ever return......
I am trying to get the left front spring back in my 61, using exactly the same method that is outlined and pictured in the ST-12 manual, with no success. The jack wants to roll tword the center of the car as the control arm raises, and so far, I cannot seem to get even close to hitting the bolt holes. Anyone know of any tricks to ease this job. I still have to do the passenger side, and am thinking seriously about sending it out. That is if I ever get the left side back on. I may have to part the car out where it sits!- Top

Re: C1 Front springs
On midyears, I've had better successby lining up the lower inner shaft with a couple of length's of allthread, and using those to provide alignment as well as some leverage, then compressing the spring witn another piece of allthread through the shock mounting holes. That way you can work the whole thing into position as an assembly while being able to vary the sompression of the spring to allow easier movement when aligning the inner shaft. I haven't tried this on a C-1, but it should work there also.- Top
