    C4 Carrier/Trans Spt Beam

I never would read directions as a kid and as an old man I still don't! I just finished putting all my running gear back in an 84 that I am refurbing or is it restoring. Anyway, after some tremendous effort I finally got the carrier, driveshaft and spt beam installed. But, after I finished, I noted that the Haynes manual makes a special note to "apply sealant to the mating surfaces" of the spt beam. Well, I didn't. Could someone please fill me in on if I need to take that beam loose to apply sealant. I am sitting on pins and needles right after I finish going fishing. Is the sealant really that important?

factory used a caulk-like material at the areas you describe. i suspect its a noise-suppression feature. i've always caulked the c-4's when re-assemblying. mike

Thanks Mike. I was afraid of an answer like this--best to do it now while I can still get to everything even if it may or may not be critical.
