Who makes the best replacement cam shaft for a 66 425 hp? Maybe Chevy still sells them I have not checked. Thanks in advance.

The original cam used for 1966 L-72 was GM #3863143. It was discontinued quite a few years ago. However, you can purchase a Crane-manufactured reproduction, including lifters, in a kit sold by GM dealers under GM #12364057. This kit is a great value and Crane manufactures excellent camshafts. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks for that information. However I called Chevy, did a national search etc., and they no longer carry that part (or any version) period (they say). I then called Crane they could not find their version of it anymore either. They say they only have the 544 lift (L 88) cam now.
Since you are the forum encyclopedia (thats a good thing) do you have any more suggestions? Thanks- Top

I'm surprised that GM would have discontinued that cam kit. It must be a VERY recent discontinuation. I'm even more surprised that Crane would have discontinued their branded reproduction of this cam. The Crane part number for the cam is/was 969961.
No matter, though, even if all the above is how it is. There are other reproductions of the cam for your application. Comp Cams makes an excellent reproduction, too. Their part number is 11-106-3 and their grind number is 143S.
Federal Mogul/TRW also makes a replacement for the GM #3863163 cam, too. Their part number is TP 165.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
