NCRS level resto-correct paint or what I prefer?

Doing a NCRS level resto on my '65..have body off and we're lookin' good. Only things incorrect about the car are KO's, Side Exhaust, and Rally Red.. The Rally Red look nice..but now is the time to repaint to factory Sunfire Yellow.
This is a fairly rare optioned vert with A/C,P/S, and P/B. What's the hit on value and points if I go to Tuxedo Black or leave it Rally Red?? My desire aside, would I be ahead to go all the way to factory specs with spinners, rear exit exhaust, and Sunfire Yellow (also fairly rare). thanks in advance for all comments and opinions.

    Frank,

The answer depends on what you plan to do with the car; have it judged at NCRS events, drive it for your own pleasure or sell it.

NCRS judging; obvious answer, put it back as original as you can, color, exhaust, everything.

Drive for your own pleasure; do it any way you want.

Sell it; resale red, side pipes and KO's.

Most of us here would counsel to restore it as close as possible to how it left the factory, after all that is what NCRS is about.

My vote is to go with the original Sunfire Yellow. How many black or red Corvettes do you see these days? A lot. How many Sunfire Yellow Corvettes do you see these days? Very few. Also, that Sunfire Yellow definitely evokes that '60s feel when one sees it. I've always been a sucker for stock vehicles.

However, it really depends on what you like, and what you plan to do with the vehicle. A vehicle that appears as it was originally built will almost always bring the highest dollar value, and will surely bring the highest NCRS point total (wrong color loses all the paint points).

You lose all points with wrong color. Also you lose all points with right color if it doesn't look like factory laquer. (Dull door & hood jambs & stinger)Etc.

The wheels won't be a big deduction but the side pipes will. You'll lose all the undercar exhaust pipes, hangers, tips etc.points. Also full deduction on paint if its the wrong color or a bogus trim tag reflecting the new color.ALWAYS repaint the car the original color coded on the trim tag!Especially yellow! A great resale color!

I did my paint as good as I could. I painted it red with white coves because that's what I like and expect to see on a 60. I want the car correct, however, I chose to over restore when it came to body and paint. I did what I like because I don't plan on ever selling it. If I ever get it judged, I can figure out what it would be without the paint points. Do it the way YOU want it or you'll regret it later.

thanks for the input..I appreciate "correctness" in restoration as well. I am also doing a '67 Hemi GTX that has been an absolute blood bath. At least everything is readily available for the C-2.

              thanks again

thanks Don--someone said they were not quite as hard on the lacquer appearance these days..but I believe you are right so I'll have to consider that as well

Well, I appreciate all the responses to my paint question...I had a fella email me that has a Goldwood Yellow and lives only 10 minutes from me in
Texas!! that rare of a color and I have one nearly across the street...anyway he emailed me some pics and the yellow is beautiful..My decision is to go back to Goldwood Yellow but keep the side pipes and knockoffs and hope to withstand those deductions and still maintain a Top Flight...of course any response to that brillant idea are welcome! thanks as always Frank
