    stainless steel exhaust

I purchased a stainless exhaust system years ago from a company called R/S Industries. Does anyone know if this company is still in business? My receipts don't have a phone number but they have a Cleveland Ohio address.

I have a system from them also. Excelent weld quality. I believe they are out of business.

I have one of their systems, too. They were the "swiss watches" of Corvette stainless steel exhaust systems. I purchased the system about 20 years ago before I even knew if there were any other manufacturers out there. When I saw their ad somewhere, being the "stainless steel sort of guy" that I am, I couldn't resist it.

The were originally located in Cleveland. I spoke with the owner at length about the great west coast weather while he lamented the Cleveland winters. Well, the next thing I knew, they up and moved to San Diego. They never made it there, though, and shut down. I don't know what happened to them after that.

        Terry and Joe,

I have some fit problems on the left front pipe, after bolting to the manifold, the other end of the pipe is low and does not line with the hole in the crossmember. I tried to bend the pipe just a little but I went to far and have crimped this bend. I am wondering if I can get this guage of stainless pipe and try over again or I will try heat and pull back some. Did you have any fit problems and are you still using this system? The exhaust system seems heavy duty (almost to heavy duty) and it sounded fine to me when the car is running so I want to use it again. I removed the passenger side muffler and there is water inside and you can hear it when shaking the muffler. No wonder the plain steel mufflers rotted out in short order.

          Tim,
My system is still in the original box, so I can't comment on fitment issues.
Stainless steel is very difficult to bend -- as you found out.
I suggest you try to find an exhaust shop which has a pipe bender and a skilled operator. Talk to them and see if they can help.

            Tim-----

I used mine for about 15 years. The only fitment problem that I had related to length of the forward pipes. They were either too short or too long. In fact, now that I think about it, I think that they were too long. They told me that I could take them to a muffler shop and have them shortened the required amount, but I told them that I would rather they exchange them for the correct length. That's what they did and everything was just fine afterwards.

This is a 2" system. Theoretically, I could use the rear pipes and mufflers with my "ZL-1" and just get new forward pipes. Original ZL-1s used a 2" exhaust system, like all other 1969 Corvettes. However, I'm going to use a 2-1/2" system with original GM mufflers for my "ZL-1", so I won't be using any part of this system. However, I will be saving it for possible re-installation on the car when I someday convert back to the original engine.
