    '66 ORIGINAL SEAT BACKS

Do original seat backs have a part# inside them, or other means to tell them from reproductions? Thanks...

    Rob,

I just happen to have my '66 seats apart.

There is a thin metal tag rapped around one spring. The tag is about 1/2" x 2" and has an 1/8" hole at one end. The black paint on the tag almost washes out the stamped numbers, but this is what I think I read:

    STUBMITZ-VIRC
    3863371-2-2MK

      Rob,

If your speaking of the plastic covers, I can find no markings on mine! Can't swear they're original, but they're old enough looking to be!

Rob - I inspected 3 sets of original seatbacks - none have any markings - easiest was to tell repop is the ouside surface graining ! Originals have a smoother less grainy texture. You can spot them a mile away !

--------Peter is correct! As well, the repops, unless they have changed lately, are always black on the inside no matter the outside color. Originals are the same color all the way thru..........Bill S

Bill - Actually the repop I have - dark green - is full green inside and out - it was molded with a dark green plastic

Peter -- do your repro seat backs also have the correct textures. If so where did you get them.

John - my repro's do not have correct texture - the grain is too dense and aggressive.
