Read through the 2001 archives and there wasn't agreement on whether the speedo and tach lenses should be installed concave or convex for speedwarning clusters. The recent judging manual still list it as convex yet a cluster just back from a very reputable restoration shop had them installed concave. Has there been any further clarification? Thanks

Re: 67 Speedwarning Lens
Steve,
----------I dont go in the judging manual at all, but I can tell you categoricly, and emphaticly that all lenses on all clusters from 1963 to 1967 no matter weather they are glass (regular speedo) or plastic (speed-warning speedo) were installed concave. I dont have a clue how that would get in any Corvette judging manual. They were installed in that manner to keep any possibility of glare to a minimum. Hope this helps as it is not out of any book, but still true........Bill S- Top

Re: 67 Speedwarning Lens
Steve,
Bill is correct that the lens are concave on ALL 63 thru 67 Corvettes. I have seen hundreds that were not but those were replaced by some inexperienced rebuilder.
Information such as this is why the NCRS exists. People like Bill are the backbone of the organization. If it were not for people passing on correct information from experience the manuals would not exist. It will take months or probably years for information to be copied to the judging manuals. Until then there should be experienced judges with the scoresheets in hand.

I agree and thank you both for your time and expertise. The judging manual just didn't make sense.- Top

Re: 67 Speedwarning Lens
Steve,
I wasn't paying attention when I disassebled mine for restoration. Upon reassembly, the speed-warning knob doesn't want to fasten tightly/correctly when the lenses are flipped around incorrectly. This is how I learned and here is where I also found the answers-The Forum!
I used a little 3M rubbing compound and held the wheel while my buddy polished the lenses. He's got one of those heavy, red Milwalkee polishing wheels for paint jobs, works great and lenses came out mint!
