    57 Ignition Shield

What is a good way to keep the spark plug wires under the ignition shield from touching the exhaust manifold?

Mike, If I am seeing your picture correctly,

it appears you are running your forward plug wires rearward within the shielding. If so they will touch the exhaust manifold. The forward 2 plug wires on each side of the engine are supposed to be routed down and though additional shields attached to the engine block just above the oil pan. An AIM will show what is invloved. If I am seeing things in your photo that are not there, please ignore the forgoing. Best, Dennis

Dennis, I see a 'support' #3733124 listed in the asembly manual in section 6,sheet 3, pg. K105. I cannot find it any any of my parts catalogs.

Re: Mike, If I am seeing your picture correctly,

Any idea where in the catalog? They might be listed as 'Lower Spark Plug Wire "U" Heat Shields w/Grommets, pr. $29.95 #471150 on pg.91. I can call tomorrow and ask their product support dept. They also list 2 clips on the block and 2 on the pan. Are those also used on a 57?

Mike, You need the 2 clips on the block,

but not the 2 on the pan (that is a later application). And, yes, I'd guess you found what you need on page 91, although I have not confirmed this myself, but it sounds right (heat shields w/grommets). Have you discovered yet that the 4 forward plug wires are quite long because of the correct routing??? Hope you didn't shorten an expensive set of wires to fit your initial routing. Ain't the learning curve great?!?! Best, Dennis

Re: Mike, You need the 2 clips on the block,

I checked with CC and those are the shields I need. I always wondered why the plug wires were so long . Where do the clips go? Is it obvious (threaded bolt hole)?

Mike, You need the 2 clips on the block,

With cylinder heads installed, look very close to the top of the block between where the forward 2 spark plugs go in the head. You will find a 1/4 - 20 threaded hole in the block. That is where the routing clip will attach. This same hole will also attach the spark plug wire heat shields. At the rear between the rear 2 plugs, that hole will appear again - In this case it will be used just to attach the 2 rear spark plug heat shields. Have we bought an Assemly Instruction Manual yet ???

Re: Mike, You need the 2 clips on the block,

I do have the 56/57 Corvette Assembly Manual. Page K105 shows the shield, but there aren't any clips. I can see how it bolts under the heat shields, which I do have. What are the 'clips' for?

Mike, My mistake, you do not need any...

...clips on the block for 56/57. The shields with gromments will get the job done. Sorry 'bout that. Dennis
