    68 on E-Bay

There's a blue 68 coupe on e-bay, 4552677128, that has some interesting dates on it. s/n is 12713 so it is Feb production according to the birthday book. The trim tag says G29 which means Feb 29 and 68 was a leap year. So far so, so good. The seat belt tag says 6E68 which puts them early to mid Feb. Now, there's a picture of the date on the frame and it says 11/17/67. Also there is a picture of the windshield and the date code is UZ, which my book says is July of 67.

Could a frame from the end of november end up on a late feb car? Is this a case of delayed coupe introduction because of problems? And what about the windshield? Does a coupe and a convertible use the same windshield? I guess it could be a replacement.

BTW, the G29 on the trim tag looks like C29, but that was a Sunday, and the JG does say it's hard to tell them apart.

Just curious...BTW, it's tough to get past the paint on this one, but it claims to have a lot of supporting documentaton about the other stuff.

Nice car. If it wasn't for the graphics, it would be far nicer. They would unfortunately kill you in Flight Judging; I'm not sure in Bowtie. I'd bet you'd lose the exterior Star, which is too bad.

I would not worry about the dates on this car. For a 68 to make it off the line under its own power at that time was an accomplishment unto itself.

      Rich:

As I understood, the coupes were delayed initially in production. So this does not seem to be far fetched in my opinion.

I love the graphics on that car. I would never paint it that way personally NOW but since it was done so long ago and reflexes the era, I think it is great.

People probably drooled/marvaled and went ga-ga over that paint job at one time. I remember all that lace and stuff back then. Thought it was so cool back then. Can't really stand it now but it is a style that was particular to that age of car.

If I had the play money to buy a car like that, I would in a heart beat.

        Just my thoughts, Terry

          Right on Brother!

If I had that car, I'd break out the bell-bottoms and cruise on down to Haight-Ashbury and check out the Janis Joplin concert. (but first I'd vacuum it out real good to get rid of any seeds)

I was going to mention bell bottoms but....

We used to wear those bell bottoms till they fell off. Take the hem out and let them get fuzzy in the wash. Square toed boots with the rings on the side. You could hide a lot of stuff in those boots....

Yep, vaccum out the seeds because the Fuzz/P-g might want to pick on you in your nice ride.

Please don't take that wrong. I have a lot of respect for police. They are under paid in most cases.

            Gimmy some skin! Man!

            Just having fun...later, Terry

That car had to have an 8-track in it at some time. My first stereo was an 8-track hooked up to a small 12 volt battery charger. Those were some interesting times. Glad I survived the neighborhood. Terry

You should try owning one....just for the adventure. My first '68 was new, off the showroom floor. Had it 5 months, and after 12 - 15 trips back to the dealer for warranty work, I sold it gleefully, and bought a '65 396 coupe Now that I'm doing a body off on another '68, I can't wait to see if I can make it a wee bit more reliable.

                  Dave

I have a 68. It's a late build, so maybe it has fewer bugs, but to be honest, I enjoy driving my 66 SB more than the 68.

And Terry...You've got me looking for my Draft Card. I was 2H for a while. According to Woody Allen, that meant I was available as a hostage, if needed.

                    Rich,
This one is a June 8 build, so regardless of how it left St. Louis then, this time around it will be new (again)with a lot of attention paid toward QC.
By the way, my draft status was 4f - after women and children

Draft - ha! My deferment was denied because 5 years previously I was not in college, the daft board said, thus not continually a student.

Right they were, I was in Jr. High! No way I could have been in college.

I was lucky and the war ended. Mom used to tell me it would be my turn someday. Probably would have been too. I did enlist shortly after highschool. Swore I would never do that but it was the best thing I ever did. I will never regret it. 4 years though and I was ready to get out. Saved up two years of leave to get out early as possible. Saved every penny and went back to college and learned. Met my wife (very best thing that ever happened to me).

Late 60's and early 70's were interesting times. I guess they still are.

                        Take care, Terry
