'67 rally wheel - argent paint?

In mid-2001, I sandblasted, cleaned, primed and sprayed my '67 rally wheels with a product advertised as "correct rally silver" looking facsimile. Now, the luster is faded and the finish is far more 'gray-ish' than I would like. There is also the distinct lack of a 'green-ish' tint.

The question is (I searched the archives a bit), can 'correct' or 'near correct' argent silver be found in a spray can?

I found the archive thread where the paint formula was given, and someone suggested contacting the PPG tech center for further help.

    Thanks.

Tom... Eastwood at Eastwood.com has argent in a rattle can for $9.99 each. Not sure about the green tint but they say it has the same tone and sheen as original.

      Tom:

The 1967 Argent silver should not have the green tint. That came in later years, around 1970 or so.

I recently compared several "Argent Silver" rattle cans from various vendors. The shade and the gloss differed considerably. The one that looked the most correct to me was part number 11020 from OEM Paints (760-747-2100). By the way, they also sell the green-silver version under a different part number.

This stuff is expensive ($28/can), and might be higher quality than some of the other versions.

By the way, the Eastwood Argent Silver was my second choice, and it costs a lot less. It just looked a bit more glossy than what I have seen on original spare tire wheels. However, I have not looked at a lot of original wheels, and I have heard that the characteristics of the paint varied considerably in original production.

1967 and 1968 used the same paint code and color. In 1969 they began adding a few drops of Grass green paint to tint the wheels. This was done at random so some wheels may have a more greenish tint than others. I think the original paint code is dupont number 42153 and ppg number DE8586. I just finished my wheels for my 69 and the local dupont store mixed the formula and put it in a spray can for 10.00.
