    71 LT-1 Holley carb

On my 30,000 mile 71 LT-1 convertible (with original carb, etc.) the plastic fast-idle cam on the right side of the carb doesn't move freely. I can move it by hand so that it will idle down, etc., but it doesn't do that automatically. I have to move it to the high position by hand so that it starts off on hi, and I need to move it down by hand so that it comes off high. My guess is that there is corrosion on the shaft. I've used some tri-lube on it and worked it up and down several hundred times, and it's freer, but not free enough. (and I get bored easily after the 40th time or so)
My dilemma is that the car is a bowtie candidate, and the carb doesn't appear to have ever been off, nor do I want to take it off.
Any suggestions/solutions to freeing it so that it moves by itself as it is supposed to? --without removing the carb from the car?
Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated! (It's not a 62, so what do I know about it?)
    Thanks,
    Mike Ernst

it the carb has a divorced choke, with the bi metalic spring mounted in the intake manifold you need to remove the fast idle arm from the primary throttle shaft, remove the choke pull off and the remove the "E" clip and the plastic fast idle cam and metal bracket that the choke linkage fits to should slide off.

If the car is scheduled for Star/Bowtie judging, I'd leave the carb untouched. Unlike Flight Judging, there is no requirement for functionality in the unrestored class...

By that I mean judges only look at originality along the lines of Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis with NO OPERATIONS judging segment. That means you won't be expected to start the car and run it. Plus, since you know how to manually work around your current 'glitch' you CAN get from here to there.

Why risk breaking a portion of the carb and/or leaving 'tampering' telltales prior to the car's Star/Bowtie judging? Address the problem after the car is judged...
